Information Regarding Flooding and extreme weather conditions - 06/09/2010
There has been major flooding in areas across regional Victoria at the weekend due to heavy rainfall, in the worst storms in more than 10 years. Parts of South Australia and Southern NSW are also affected.
SES Victoria received more than 3800 calls for assistance from community members, and thousands are on high alert for evacuation, with flood conditions yesterday being upgraded to Catastrophe.
The full extent of the flood damage is yet to be assessed as many areas are still under water, with rivers continuing to rise, with more rain forecast in some areas today, and run off from snow fields also contributing to the problem.
Numerous local roads are affected, many homes are without power, and inevitably Telephone infrastructure will also be affected. SES & residents are working to protect property, or if the need arises, preparing to evacuate.
We are aware that several bridges and roads in affected areas have been damaged or washed away, however the affected areas are yet to be assessed for full infrastructure and agricultural damage, and therefore we do not yet know how long services will take to restore.
There are also several mobile towers down due to Storm activity (see below).
Montimedia anticipates there may be an increase in the number of faults raised this week, and we will work diligently to ensure they are all handled as soon as practicable.
We also advise the offset may be small delays in processing other non-critical fault types, such as Internet Grade Broadband Services.
Information for Flood-affected customers: Customers whose property is at risk, or has been damaged should call State Emergency Services. Flood or Storm assistance call 132 500 (all states).
For life-threatening Emergencies call 000
Once the floods have receded, and damage has been assessed, the cleanup will begin.
Customer's whose phone lines are affected should directly raise faults with Montimedia.
